The tequila sunrise has become a beloved classic for so many reasons. It’s not only quick to make in a pinch, but it’s also visually alluring and filled with a burst of fruity flavors. The cocktail has only three main ingredients, tequila, orange juice and grenadine. Together, these elements effortlessly make this one of the most sought-after drinks for tequila lovers everywhere.

Easy Tequila Sunrise Cocktail (Only 3 Ingredients)

The signature “sunrise” effect that this cocktail is known for happens naturally. This deep red color comes from grenadine syrup. Grenadine is a thick, sweet, nonalcoholic, pomegranate-flavored syrup. It adds a balancing sweetness to the tart orange juice.

Because of its thickness, it sinks to the glass’s bottom and then slowly rises up, just like the sun. To keep the orange and red layers from blending into a blush pink drink, it is crucial to avoid stirring the mixture after adding the grenadine, just let it be!

Ingredients for this Recipe

Tequila – Preferably white or silver tequila

Orange Juice – we suggest pulp free orange juice

Grenadine – Rose’s brand is great, but there are others on the market

Orange Slice and Maraschino Cherry – optional

Ice – crushed or cubes

How to Make a Tequila Sunrise

Fill a highball glass with Ice.

Add tequila and orange juice and slightly stir to blend the ingredients.

To get the perfect sunrise effect slowly pour the grenadine around the inside edge of the glass. Be patient and allow the grenadine to seep and cascade like a waterfall. It will eventually mix with the other ingredients and create a “sunrise” visual effect.

Garnish with orange slice and maraschino cherry.
