Easy Peanut Butter and Jelly Doggie Linzer Cookies – Only 4 Ingredients

PEANUT BUTTER DOG TREATS
I first made these Peanut Butter and Jelly Linzer cookies for my three dogs, Cody, Jacko and Buddy almost seven years ago. My dogs really enjoyed these cookies and between the three of them, they were gone in a few days. Sadly, since that time, Cody and Buddy have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. I decided to whip up a batch of these peanut butter dog treats for Jacko and I thought I would share them with you. They are really cute and contain only a few simple ingredients.
Recently, Instructables hosted a Pets Challenge contest and I thought the peanut butter and jelly cookie recipe is a perfect recipe to enter. I entered the contest and as a result, the recipe was a final contender. And I won a $50.00 gift card. I was very happy about that. If you have puppies, I hope you make these cookies too.
IMPORTANT! Use only dog safe peanut butter!
PLEASE read the ingredients on the back of your peanut butter and make sure that it does not contain xylitol. Xylitol is an alcohol derived from plants and it is a natural sweetener. However, it is extremely toxic to dogs. Some brands are adding xylitol to reduce the sugar. Also make sure there is no salt added to the peanut butter. I use Teddie All Natural Peanut Butter. It contains one ingredient – PEANUTS.
CAN DOGS EAT STRAWBERRY JELLY?
In short, yes. However, please note the following:
PLEASE read the ingredients on the back of your jelly. Sugar should not be the first ingredient. I suggest using jelly that is sweetened with fruit juice. BUT, NOT grape juice. Grape juice may be toxic to dogs since grapes are known to be toxic. Even though, sugar is generally safe for healthy dogs, they should have it in very, very small amounts as a treat on occasion. Also, please make sure there are no sugar substitute ingredients in the jelly, just fruit and sugar and/or fruit juice.
If you rather avoid giving your dog jelly, you can eliminate the jelly add a little bit of peanut butter instead. Alternatively, you may like my pumpkin oatmeal cookies for dogs.
INGREDIENTS
whole wheat flour – you can use oat flour. Avoid using all-purpose flour. It’s not the best for dogs.
water – no explanation needed.
peanut butter – make sure to use only dog safe peanut butter.
unsweetened applesauce – make sure to use pure applesauce, nothing with grape or grape juice.
strawberry jelly – only natural juice sweetened jelly. DO NOT USE low sugar or sugar free, they have chemicals and/or natural sweeteners that are toxic to dogs.
HOW TO MAKE PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY LINZER COOKIES
- In a large mixing bowl combine the flour, peanut butter and applesauce. Slowly add water a little at a time, kneading the dough until its formed.
- Separate the cookie to into two equal parts. It is easier to roll out a smaller portion. Also, you can freeze one and bake it at another time.
- Roll the cookie dough into a thin sheet, 4mm thin.
- Use your cookie cutter to cut out the cookies. You will need a small cookie cutter to cut out the center of every other cookie. I used a 3″ and 1″ dog bone cookie cutter. But any shape will do as long as there is a cut-out center. I don’t think the doggies will mind a round or heart shape cookie.
- Place the cookies on the cookie sheet and make sure you have pairs. You can also bake the small piece that were from center. They make great bite sized peanut butter cookie treats. Bake cookies for about 10 minutes. Remove and cool before assembling.
- Place a thin layer of jelly onto the solid cookie and place the cookie with the cut-out center on top.
- Cookies should be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

- ¾ cup water
- ½ cup peanut butter
- 4 ounces of unsweetened applesauce
- 1-2 tablespoons strawberry jelly
