Almond Apple Cake

Almond Apple Cake drizzled with Amaretto Dulce de Leche sauce!! This apple cake is not ordinary! It is loaded with apples, flavored with amaretto, drizzled with homemade amaretto dulce de leche and topped with a cinnamon sugar crust and toasted almond slices. Dust with some powdered sugar and you have a divine apple cake.

Toppings for this Almond Apple Cake

To add extra flavor and truly make this almond apple cake stand apart from all the others, we added extra deliciousness. Let’s start by mixing sugar, cinnamon and sliced almonds and top the cake before baking. The almonds with toast to perfection and the cinnamon sugar will caramelize to a sweet candy crust. To give another layer of flavor, we mixed amaretto liquor with dulce de leche until a sauce consistency was reached. Add a generous drizzle and it is perfect! I will be making this cake for Thanksgiving. This recipe is a keeper.

How to Make a Moist Bundt Cake

INGREDIENTS  

Almond Apple Cake

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • apples peeled and sliced
  • buttermilk
  • sugar
  • light brown sugar
  • apple cider
  • melted unsalted butter
  • eggs room temperature
  • light olive oil
  • amaretto liqueur
  • vanilla extract
  • baking powder
  • baking soda
  • sea salt

Almond Cinnamon Sugar Topping

  • sliced almonds
  • sugar
  • cinnamon

Amaretto Dulce de Leche Sauce

  • dulce de leche
  • amaretto liquor

INSTRUCTIONS

Mix all ingredients and set aside.

Almond Apple Cake

Pre heat oven to 375°. Lightly oil bunt or cake pan, set aside.

Peel and dice apples, set aside.

Place all dry ingredients – flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt into a large mixing bowl and whisk together until fully combined. Set aside.

Melt butter.

In a separate mixing bowl, mix all wet ingredients – buttermilk, apple cider, melted butter, oil, eggs, amaretto liquor and vanilla extract.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Fold in lightly until fully mixed. Do not over mix.

Fold in apples, just until they are covered with batter. Do not over mix.

Place batter into oiled pan and bake for 40-45 minutes. Until toothpick comes out clean.

Let cool completely before serving.

Amaretto Dulce de Leche Sauce

Mix amaretto and dulce de leche until smooth.

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
